RWANDA’s main brewing and soft beverage company, Bralirwa has unleashed a three-year sponsorship package worth Rwf335m to the top flight football league. Bralirwa and the local football body (Ferwafa) announced the ground breaking partnership during yesterday’s joint press conference held at the company’s head offices in Kicukiro. The partnership covers the remainder of this season as well as the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons. After each league, a tournament dubbed ‘Primus Cup’ will be held. The event will merge the league’s top sides. Bralirwa Managing Director Sven Piederiet said that the company is keen to explore new areas of offering support such as development of school football as part of Bralirwa’s corporate social responsibility. “Bralirwa is and will always be involved in sport as it is such an important part of society. Stimulating people, bringing enjoyment and giving talent a chance to step up are very important values for us,” “We hope with this package, Rwandan football will improve and probably have the nation competing at the 2020 World Cup,” Piederiet said. The national football league last had a sponsor during the 2005/06 season when Bralirwa through its Primus brand injected Rwf70m, but the sponsorship lasted for only one and half years after both parties failed to account media coverage.
