The time to file for divorce

When one would quit in a marriage is subject to debate. But more genuine couple will stands by their vows and will fight against all odds to keep their marriage going. Devout Christians dedicate the cheating spouse to pray calling it a ploy by the devil to destroy their marriages.Without being pessimistic, sometimes separation or divorce is the answer. According to Sheikh Saleh Habimana, the Mufti of Rwanda separation or divorce is a last resort. He explained that when there are differences in a relationship, couple should reconsider reconciliation. “When there is a problem between married couples. We first seek the counsel of those who were present when they were making the oath on their wedding,” he said.“When that fails, they proceed to get the counsel of the leadership in their society. But if it is also a failure,” the Mufti said, “they resort to palak.” Sheikh Habimana explained that palak is when couples are made to live in the same house but have separate bedrooms for one to four months. After palak is completed and the differences persist, the married couple is allowed to a separation or divorce. But the Mufti maintains that separation conflicts with the way of God— which is reconciliation. Norman a married public servant in Kigali, said that if he got caught his wife in the act of infidelity, he wouldn’t rush for separation. “I wouldn’t make a hurried decision. Instead I would investigate to find out why it happened and under what conditions,” he said. Norman who is also a Christian said that, during the course of the investigation, he would share a room with his wife but abstain since he feared contracting HIV/ Aids. The time to call for divorce may not be a specific, but when it’s all said and done, it depends on a couple’s principles and theirbelief in the sacrament of marriage. Ends
