Have you ever wondered why someone would go for sports in jeans or linen shorts? Most Sundays morning on my way to church I meet groups of men and women doing sports, running and singing in unison; some seem to be enjoying, others have faces which suggest that they are being forced into it, and others seem completely lost. The most interesting lot are the ones who have no idea what sports is all about. I have also realized that men, always dress up the part; but woe unto ladies- few know what sports is all about and what it entails, because some seem to be escorting either their friends, spouses or are there to show off their figures in skin hugging designer clothes which are not meant for sports. I have seen women dressed in all manner of styles in the name of sports gear. Some come in wrong tops, others come in wrong trousers and others are in very bad shoes to do sports in. I take this opportunity to enlighten my sports lover sisters on what to dress when going for sports, since every occasion has its dress code. Clothes You need to feel perfectly comfortable in your clothes. If the clothes are hindering you, either because they are too wide or too small or tight, they will make you feel uneasy and maybe you’ll even have problems performing the sports correct. So be sure to wear some sports clothes that fit you well. Women, wear a sports bra. This might seem like common sense, but many females do not. Not only does the bra provide comfort and support, it can prevent workout embarrassments that the rest of us don’t want to see. Socks it’s best to opt for a moisture-wicking fabric that will keep you cool in the heat and warm and dry when it’s cold. Cotton is inexpensive, readily available and absorbent; it allows sweat to evaporate as quickly in hot temperatures. The material can also keep sweat trapped near your body Proper workout socks will also reduce the chance of getting blisters on your feet, especially when you do some intensive exercise. Be sure that your socks are not to thin or too thick. Shoes Wear shoes that are designed for the specific activity you want to perform ; like walking shoes are not suitable for running, and running shoes can increase the risk of a twisted ankle if you’re playing basketball. If you are going to jog, wear jogging or running shoes. These shoes are designed to support your ankles while your run and to limit the risk of injuries. The shoes should also fit properly. A shoe that is too tight, too loose or doesn’t offer enough support can lead to blisters and even serious injury to the foot or leg. Protection Finally, protect yourself from the sun. Even if it’s not hot, you can still get burned. Make sure to wear sunscreen, wear light-colored clothing, and use a hat or sunglasses when it’s especially sunny to protect your eyes. During the cold months wear clothes that will keep you warm. This way you won’t catch a flu. Safety Safety is very important. If you do a lot of running while it is dark outside, be sure to wear jogging or sports clothes that are reflective. Maybe get a wristband or even a headlamp. Make sure that you can be seen when it is dark outside. The reflective strips attached at your shoes are not enough!
