Burera steps up agricultural development

BURERA -  At least 6000 hectares of land have been consolidated for growing of selected crops in Burera district and close to 95 per cent of the cultivable hills have been terraced. This was revealed on Thursday during a performance assessment exercise done by sector executive secretaries in the district. “We want to sustain commercial farming, but farmers still cannot access the markets. Local value remains another constrain,’’ Damascene Ndagijimana, one of the sector leaders said. It was also disclosed that different sectors have embarked on extensive growing of maize, wheat, beans and potatoes under crop consolidation program.
