Rwanda’s Culture is Unique

Like many African cultures, the Rwandan society emphasizes and respects their cultural wear. Children are raised in a manner that allows them to understand its importance and love the elegance that this dress code brings to whoever wears it. Many tourists say that one of the joys of visiting Rwanda is the sight of beautiful women and handsome men dressed in their traditional dresses called ‘Imishanana’. Imishanana are worn on traditional and formal occasions. Parents should buy their children mishanana so that they can learn how to put it on. Culture gives every person a sense of belonging. Every proud citizens of this beautiful country also called ‘The Land of a Thousand Hills’ needs to celebrate and appreciate the good culture we have been blessed with. Although many youth are getting taken up by the western styles of dressing and behaviour, in Africa, culture still remains an important element of society. One thing Rwanda’s youth should understand is that, even though change occurs from time to time, major unifying characteristics will always be cultural. The Rwandan culture has also been maintained by emphasizing “Kinyarwanda” as the local and national language. More things that culturally bind Rwandans are; the art of basketry, and the uniqueness of Rwandan music, dance and literature. Ends
