Authorities wind up cattle redistribution

KAYONZA/GATSIBO — Authorities in Kayonza and Gatsibo districts say there were ‘no losers’ in the cattle redistribution programme under One Cow per Family.’ While carrying out the final redistribution of the cows last Sunday, Jacqueline Mutesi, the Veterinary officer of Kayonza district told residents of Ndego sector that all families were catered for. She assured local leaders who lost cows to the most needy in the villages, that they would also be considered. “I want to be clear that the exercise is not against anybody. Our ultimate goal is to give every family a cow so there shouldn’t be any worries,” she said. She disclosed that the district has set aside a farm, on which several cows are reared which will be given to families in the near future. Christine Mutuyemariya, the Kayonza district vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, said “priority was given to the needy.” Richard Kayitana, one of the beneficiaries observed that it was not fair to start with leaders. “Local leaders who got cows first must admit that they had done wrong and wait for their turn to come. This has been superb considerations that we the needy appreciate,” he said. Ends
