Rwanda to exhibit at 2010 WC

The 2010 World Cup host cities of Pretoria, Durban and Johannesburg have invited Kigali City Council (KCC) to showcase its investment potential at the forthcoming world football gala. Speaking to The New Times, the Mayor of Kigali City, Dr. Aisha Kirabo said that the invitation was extended thanks to the existing cooperation between her City and the World Cup host cities in South Africa. Kirabo said plans are in high gear since the initiative has received clearance from cabinet. “We got a positive feed back from the cabinet, through this we have been promised all the support we need from the respective ministries especially the ministry of culture,” she noted She said this would be a good platform for showcasing the economic and social potential of Rwanda. In order to utilise this opportunity, Kigali City Council is mobilising traditional dancers and musicians to entertain guests during the course of the tournament and as a build up to this event it is organising a traditional music festival to assess the talents. “We are organising Kigali City Music festival where we shall align and assess the talents we have such that we perform well in South Africa.” She also added that Rwanda has been given a place to put the ‘Rwanda village’ where the tourism, crafts, talents will be showcased and information on investment potential will be easily obtained by people who will come from all over the world. The Mayor also revealed that there are other social programs especially on empowering Rwandan youth and women through exchange programs between the two countries. “This will facilitate consolidation of the present and future corporation between the two countries” she pointed out.
