Belgian FM pays tribute to Genocide victims
KIGALI - The Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Steve Vaneckere yesterday arrived in the country and paid his respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis at the Kigali Memorial Centre. Speaking to local and international media shortly after touring the centre, Vaneckere said that he was particularly moved by the images of innocent children and women killed during the Genocide. “This is really sad. It’s very important to continue to know your past while on the other hand it’s important to look forward to the present and the future,” the Belgian official said. He underscored the significance of having a Genocide memorial centre, saying that this makes the world not forget what happened in history.
