I found them sleeping in sacks

One day, while I was traveling with my mother to Gisenyi early in the morning, I found them sleeping in sacks. When I asked my mother who they were, she told me that they are street children. They live and feed in the dustbins around the city. What a life….tears flowed down my cheeks as I watched them. “This life is not worthy of these children” my little brains thought. If all parents were rich, children could enjoy the best of life. When I asked my mother whether these children go to school, she replied that such children are illiterate. Most of them don’t even know how to write their own names.“Oh”, I was shocked. “Mother, they don’t know even how to write their own names? That sounds serious”. As a toddler who got the chance to know a little bit of my rights as a child, I am very sure that these children are denied the right to good health and education. With the very cold nights and the unhygienic conditions on the streets, children are vulnerable to diseases like pneumonia, coughs and colds, scabies, jiggers and lice. Since I am child, I can’t help my fellow toddlers on the streets. But all I can do is to call for help. Dear parents, guardians and all institutions dealing with children. I beg you please; help my fellow children on the streets. Help them have a better life, remove them from the street life. Street life is not good for children it can cause them lose their lives. Ends
