NGO to boost income generation in Nyarubaka

KAMONYI – Residents of Nyarubaka sector, in Kamonyi district will soon receive high quality cows from Global Civic Sharing (GCS) Rwanda, a project being developed by an international NGO contributing to income generation and nutrition. Sung Hye Jee, the GCS project coordinator made the revelation, at the opening of a two-day training on animal husbandry held at Nyarubaka sector on January 6. The training was aimed at enabling the project beneficiaries to manage the new stock of cattle they are soon to receive. Twelve residents of Nyarubaka were selected and trained and will be able to access credit from the GCS project. Jee said that “Nyarubaka is one the poorest sectors in the district and GCS project intends to support the sector towards achieving social and economic empowerment and sustainable development through this project”. Lee also remarked that the culture of sharing in Rwanda which is part of the project design is fertile ground for wholesome community development through partnership with local leaders and the intended beneficiaries. The beneficiaries said that the training will enable them to manage the new stock of livestock. “This program calls for responsibility and accountability since the cows are accessed through a credit facility,” Jeanette Mukampazimpaka, one of the identified beneficiaries said. “We shall benefit in the long run since we have the capacity to manage the livestock and also help others to develop.” The GCS Nyarubaka program is sponsored by Life Adjustment Marketing Ability Development (LAMAD) Fund of Samsung, one of Korea’s top technology companies. Vision2020 Umurenge Program (VUP) officials acknowledge that the GCS program will speed up development and implement poverty reductions strategies in which residents are actively involved. Ends
