RELATIONSHIPS : Why I called it quits; on christmas

Eligible bachelors and spinsters out there hope you agree with me when I say; the Merry {Christmas} season is when you feel blessed for having not committed to anyone. It’s like breakups have become part and partial of the festive season. Much as Christmas is meant to unite Christians with one goal of celebrating Christ’s birth, many couples part ways during the Christmas season. Evidence is facebook, almost everyone’s status changes from ‘married’, ‘engaged’ to ‘single’. Should we say that relationships that collapse during the festive season have been on a thin thread, awaiting a reason to spark their breakup? Is it that couples suddenly forget what they want in a relationship? Or breaking up is one of the New Year’s resolutions? None of the above usually counts for ‘merry breakups’ as I may call them. There are various reasons why long term partners realize it will never workout, especially during the merry season. And as I mention the reasons, critically categorise where your relationship/breakup falls. Inadequate time with spouse; All that occupies most people’s minds is getting everything ready for Christmas. Decorations, meals, hosting visitors tend to replace their spouses. Especially the ladies, they try to prove how superb they are at cooking forgetting that it’s not only a good meal that will keep him around. Negligence; Christmas is more of a re-union, Family, childhood friends including high school boyfriends or girlfriends. The many visitors lure partners into taking their lovers for granted. After all they {lovers} have been there and will always be there. And as they concentrate on giving a memorable treat to the visitors, their better half is neglected. The interaction with guests at times results into attraction, that’s why people breakup and start fresh relationships immediately. Jealousy; this also comes inline with the many guests. Some partners can’t stop praising and complimenting guests in the face of their spouses. They will mention how grown up they’ve become, how elegant and attractive they look. Other partners can barely hold back how attracted they are to the visitors. This stirs up jealousy, and with envy, a breakup is inevitable. Revealed habits; the festive holiday brings couples that have been miles away close. And this time, there is no work stress at all. Partners get the time to know their spouses inside out; know their habits and of course decide if that’s the man/woman they wanted in the first place. Some of the revelations are smoking, bad temper, selfishness, name it. Tension; As one intends to make Christmas memorable to the whole family, nervousness will invite itself. As one buys gifts for the kids, they will forget to buy the best for the spouse. And with the ‘consider me first’ in relationships, obviously the excuse of being tense will not count. Parties; especially to young couples, the definite choice is hanging out and enjoying the festivities with friends. Though the decision will leave the spouse lonely, it’s the ideal thing for most. And since gifts alone can’t work, leaving her/him home alone is as good as quits. Resolutions; to those who are practically fed up with the relationship, definitely it will be among their new years resolutions to quit. More than anything, couples get fed up with making mistakes the following year. They rather break someone’s heart than staying under the myth of a dead relationship. Unquestionably, the breakup fault is not with the couples; blame it on Christmas and its festivities. Ends
