Children in Christmas fete

HUYE – Hundreds of children and parents from Tumba Sector were on Wednesday 23 hosted to a sumptuous Christmas party by the Africa Mission Alliance (AMA), a Christian organisation that cares for orphans, widows and the needy. The party was held in the spirit of sharing as a community, organisers said. Guests were treated to performances from the Asante Children’s choir made up of children sponsored by the organisation. The choir that has been undergoing intensive training for the past one year is set to embark on a tour that will take them to the US and Canada. William Ngabo, the representative of the organisation in Rwanda said that the activity was not only meant to celebrate Christmas and the end of the year, but it was called also to plan for the education of children in the coming year. “As an organisation, we always seek closer collaboration with the parents and guardians of the children that we sponsor in school. We want parents or guardians to take responsibility for the education of their children as we empower them out of poverty,” said Ngabo. The organisation in partnership with parents, government and other organisations sponsors over 1000 school going children through provision of school fees and other scholastic materials. The organisation also supports women from rural communities by enabling them access empowerment resources to better their livelihoods. Marie Claire Uwingabire, an official in charge of social affairs in Tumba Sector commended the activities of AMA. She said that the organisation is playing a pivotal role in ensuring the education of children who are the ‘future of the Country.’ Uwingabire cautioned parents against producing children they can not provide for; she urged them against abandoning their role of bringing up and providing for their children. John Mulisa, an official working with AMA challenged parents to always listen to their children and help them through the challenges that they are faced with. Ends
