NATASHA'S CHRONICLES : The reflection of Christ at Christmas

I’m sure we all are aware of this season, and we all know of the magic that Christmas brings. Originally Christmas was a celebration of the birth of Christ, the messiah, as we sing praises and give thanks. However in all honesty, hundreds of people celebrate today’s Christmas, in a ‘twisted version of the birth of Christ.’ It is interesting to know how we witness so much and fail to reflect Christmas amidst the whole ‘Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’ circus; I believe it should be different. A few days ago, a phrase in an article from ‘The Sunday Nation’, a Kenyan newspaper, stated; ‘it was Christmas Eve and this lady was on her way to club to get merry’ that caught my attention. I wanted to know more about ‘getting merry in a club’ (actually its very funny for me). Now that was her choice, and I mean no offense but, I honestly don’t think that was the ultimate place to be on a Christmas Eve, in preparation for the birth of Christ; unless she was a non-believer. But this is no condemnation for the lady, but it’s rather the twisted impression we have made of this sacred season! Many times we have sent away, in sheer harshness, the so-called “beggar” besides your car. And shouted at the househelp, clearly complaining and condemning them and never appreciating! Also joining a couple of friends, going to all sorts of places, and eventually, coming before God with so much to ask for to make the festive season the best. Does it ever occur to anyone that whatever they do sows a seed somewhere in their life? Or that what you do displays what you believe in? Or that you just might be despising the very door to your most needed blessing? I mean when we ask God for more love due to a lonely or desperate situation we are facing, or even for God’s own encouragement and support, we hardly realize He might be asking something from us. “All you ask will be granted but first, could you please demonstrate what you ask so that I can give you exactly what you need and more?” could be His answer. I am led to believe that Christmas is a time to make manifest the love of God in our giving, talk, and actions. We ought to remember that God saw capability in every one of his children, young, old or very old alike, to reflect his image every single day. I just want to assure you, that there is blessing in allowing God to reflect in your character. Just don’t let your blessing pass you by this Christmas! hozatash@yahoo.com
