The good and bad at Miss Rwanda 2009

It’s said that, ‘Looking for the good in everything is equally as misguided as looking for the bad in everything.” But when we held our first Miss Rwanda in over a decade and a half, there was a lot to be talked about. Today we bring you some of the good things that characterized the beauty Contest as well as those that were in a way not proper on the night of December 18th at Gikondo show grounds. The good things will come first as there are a lot of positive things that happened that night. First was the lighting which made the stage look magnificent in the end making the contestants and whoever stepped on that stage look very beautiful. Some people just know how to make events marvelous. The Honorable Minister of Education is a case in point. His jokes that night spiced up the already funny night as Dr. Mich had done more than that. The performers, The Ben, Meddy and Mashirika Cultural troupe were at their best as they managed to keep the fans on their feet throughout their performances. Without the big and energetic crowd that night, this event wouldn’t have been such a success. They crowd cheered on the girls all night and gave good receptions to the performers. As all eyes were set on the contestants, they lived up to the expectations and did a terrific job walking the stage. There were no stumbles or any signs of fear from the contestants, yet it was the first time most of them had taken part in such an event. Last but not least was the availability of drinks around all corners of the hall and the people to send for the drinks.Being the first time in 17 years that we’d organized an event of the caliber, some mistakes were spotted easily.The show that was supposed to begin at 6:00PM started at a miserable 9:00PM. Revelers even failed to accept the apology by Rwandatel CEO Hamidou Isiaka. The other bad point of the night was the sound. The hosts Dr. Mich and Anita Muneza had to share a microphone as one had failed them. I am sure the musicians also had their share of the poor sound. The DJs were the other failures. They failed to keep the mammoth crowd busy in the three hours they were waiting. At some point they even cut off the music as a contestant was in the middle of a cat walk. However the biggest blunder of the night goes to the judges. They eliminated a contestant in the first round but her name appeared on the final list. Had it not been for Dr. Mich, who noticed the blunder, many questions would be raised on the part of the judges. Ends
