Rwanda has had historical fish shortages because country’s natural water bodies can not produce enough fish to sustain the consumer’s demands. To overcome this shortage, the country has mostly depended on fish supplies from Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania to feed her population. Rwanda government has since taken a step to encourage the private sector to invest in fish farming. China has promised to work with the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (Nepad) to develop the fishing industry in Africa. They also agreed to work on a scientific research programme on aquaculture—fish growing. They particularly focus on fish breeding and to co-host future forums on Fisheries Science and Technology. Rwanda will at last be able to supply enough fresh fish to her population. Kicukiro
