TEN teams will contest in this year’s Fiba-Africa Club Championship as opposed to the usual number of twelve, Times Sport has learnt. This comes after the recent withdrawal of Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel and Ascut of Madagascar. “We have been informed that those two (Etoile du Sahel and Ascut) are not coming which puts the number of participating teams at ten,” the national basketball federation (Ferwaba) president Eric Kalisa said. The draws were scheduled for last night at FIBA headquarters in Abuja, Ivory Coast. This tourney, which attracts Africa’s top clubs, is only being hosted for the first time in Rwanda. So far, the qualified teams include; APR (Rwanda), AS Mazembe (DRC), Inter Club (Congo Brazzaville), Cooperative Bank (Kenya), KPA (Kenya), Warriors (Uganda), defending champions Primeiro de Agosto (Angola) and Petro Atletico (Angola). The eight will be joined by two teams from Zone three (Kano Pillars-Nigeria, Liberia’s NPA Python, Modele of Togo and two clubs from Benin;Ellan and ASPAC). Ends
