GICUMBI – Radio Rwanda will from today start a 5-day program of live broadcast from Byumba town. Radio equipment and a couple of journalists started arriving at their new duty station, located at Gicumbi district head office on Wednesday. Speaking to The New Times yesterday, journalists Valentin Umuhire and Pascal Nyandwi said a total of 35 journalists and technicians are expected to move to Byumba station to cover a variety of radio programmes. “We are here for a five-day mission to cover Radio Rwanda programmes for Gicumbi and Rulindo districts. The programmes are aimed at enabling local residents express themselves on socio-economic achievements and failures in the two districts,” said Umuhire. According to the journalists, their programmes will focus on good governance, agriculture and livestock farming. “District mayors, vice mayors and other local leaders will also be interviewed on a variety of issues, ranging from poverty eradication strategies, infrastructure development, gender equality, provision of health facilities and the fight against corruption,” said Nyandwi.
