On Thursday 24th November 2022, Irembo hosted its second tech talk episode on the theme of cyber security which brought together technology experts from different companies to share insights and experiences in the field. The event, which was hosted at the Irembo Campus, in Nyarutarama proceeded the inaugural Irembo Tech Talk that was held last month for software engineers under the theme, ‘building web applications at scale’ featuring Pindo Co-founder, Remy Muhire, Head of Infrastructure at Oltranz, Andrew Musoke and Irembo’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Patrick Ndjientcheu as guest speakers. “It is important that we build synergies and share experiences within the tech space mostly to address common challenges within the industry as well as to mentor and encourage the young professionals especially in software engineering to grow and be efficient in the profession” said Irembo’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Patrick Ndjientcheu. Over 80 participants attended this month’s tech talk which majored on discussing in depth how to implement security best practices during the lifecycle of a web application, from design to running in production. The panel of experts which included speakers from National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) Chief Cybersecurity Standards Officer, Ghislaine Kayigi, One Acre Fund Lead Software Engineer, Jeremiah Chienda, as well as Irembo Security and Privacy Lead, Geoffrey Njogu shared their different thoughts, skills, and knowledge on Cyber Security. Charlotte Bwiza, who is an Associate Product Manager at Irembo said she hopes to see more women taking up careers in the tech industry. “There aren’t many ladies who stick to this career path and commit to this profession. I would like to encourage young girls to know that they too can make it in the tech and cyber space industry and thrive at it” she said. According to Patrick, the purpose of these engagements is to break down silos and stereotypes attached to technology in general by inviting experts in the tech space to share knowledge and the experiences to strengthen our network and encourage the youth to pursue careers in the industry.
