Rwanda has pulled out of the race to host this year’s Cup winner’s cup scheduled to run from December 10-20.According to Emmanuel Ndungutse; the local volleyball governing body (FRVB) technical director, Rwanda was forced to pull out after failing to meet some of the requirements put across by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).“For us to host this competition, we had to meet all the requirements from CAVB in a space of six weeks. Well, it turns out that we couldn’t meet some of these requirements within the set deadlines,” Ndungutse told Times Sport.Rwanda’s failure to host this competition is a big blow in her hopes of staging bigger CAVB competitions.“It’s definitely a big blow because staging this would be a lee-way to staging future CAVB events,” an anonymous FRVB source added.Rwanda’s exit leaves Mauritius and Egypt as the two contenders to stage the competition. Despite the development, Rwanda National University (UNR) and APR still stand as the country’s flag bearers at the 10-day competition.The two clubs have a lot at stake after Rwanda’s dreadful show last year.UNR and Kigali Volleyball Club finished 9th and 12th respectively at the 2006 edition that was claimed by Egypt’s Zamalek after ousting Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel.Similar to past years, Cup winners’ cup merges Africa’s finest volleyball clubs and will wrap up this year’s Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) calendar.
