Rwandans get VIP World Cup trophy dinner treat

On Tuesday at Kigali Serena, over 300 Rwandans and non-Rwandan football fans, had a once in a life time chance of taking souvenir photos with the Fifa World Cup trophy. The trophy was on the 34th stopover of its African tour in the country after Burundi. The VIP gala was well attended, and the Minister Joseph Habineza was the guest of honour. High profiled government officials, Football Federation, officials from FIFA, Coca Cola, Bralirwa did not miss out. Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Bralirwa Sven Piederet said, “I’m still a little bit nervous to be able to see the world Cup trophy. I thank Fifa and Coca Cola for bring the real world cup trophy to Rwanda.” “We are extremely proud to share this unique opportunity with all Rwandans and we hope that Rwanda will be at World Cup finals in a couple of years to come,” Piederet added. According to Habineza, Fifa and Coca Cola brought a dream to the country and it is a challenge to Rwanda. “This is a dream that we had and we still have to work hard to participate in the World Cup finals.” “I’m glad to announce that Coca Cola will help realize our dream as they have promised to back the youth teams which will produce a national team for either 2014 or 2018 World Cup finals,” Habineza added. Prior to the VIP gala show at Serena, the Fifa World Cup trophy was displayed at the open stadium giving privilege to all football fans in the country, who filled the stadium to have a glance at the most recognised sports trophy. President Paul Kagame became the first and only Rwandan to touch the world’s most prestigious sports icon and symbol of football supremacy. The trophy route covers 86 countries and will take 225 days to travel, to allow fans around the globe to see the real solid-gold trophy. Ends
