EASTERN PROVINCE Nyagatare — In a bid to promote young women in the country, the district, working with PACFA and FAWE, awarded the four best-performing schools in female education.Two primary schools and two secondary schools were each given Frw1 million.The awards are part of a national program started by First Lady Madame Jeanette Kagame.Among the schools scooping first positions included Rurenge primary school, Gishuru primary school, Nyagatare SS, and Tabagwe SS. Out of the 80 primary, and 15 secondary schools competing, runner-ups received Frw500,000. Speaking on the criteria of winning schools, director of education Syvestre Mutabaruka said daily life necessities were important. “We considered lots of things, including schools with facilities that uplift girls’ education; among them the follow up on girls, separate toilets, which are not shared with the opposite sex, and many others.”Mr. Mutabaruka noted that next academic year the competition expected to be organized in a better way to those schools, which will create a conducive environment in the promotion of girl’s education.
