STORY CORNER : The farmer and the lazy lark bird

Once upon a time there was a rich old farmer who lived by the riverside. By the riverside was a lark bird that hated hunting for worms to eat. The old farmer always admired its beautiful feathers so much. One morning the farmer went and gathered a box full of worms and went all the way to the market that was near his farm. As he was going through the forest to the market, the lark bird saw the farmer and was curious to know what he was carrying in the box. The bird asked the farmer, “What do you have in the box you are carrying?” The farmer said he was carrying worms in the box.He did not know that the bird loved worms. The lark bird was so curious and still wanted to know where the farmer was taking the worms. “I am taking the worms to the market so that I can trade them for feathers,” the farmer answered the bird. The bird was so interested in the worms and flew next to the farmer to strike a deal with him. The other lark birds warned him against this deal but the lazy bird did not listen, he wanted the worms and he wanted them quick! The bird asked the farmer, “Why don’t you give me that box of worms in exchange for a feather, instead of going to the market.” The farmer agreed and gave the box of worms to the bird. The greedy lark bird in return plucked a feather and gave it to the farmer. The next day the same thing happened and the bird plucked another feather from its body. Because of its laziness, it continued to trade its feathers for the next weeks until it was left with none on its body. The lark bird could no longer fly and it became so ugly and weak from the cold which led to its death. The moral of the story is that laziness can kill. The lark bird thought it would get its food easily without working. It did not know that in the long run it would need its feathers to fly. If it had hunted for the worms, the bird would have lived longer. Ends
