Haruna upbeat on Amavubi’s CAN chances

AMAVUBI’S versatile midfielder Haruna Niyonzima insists that Rwanda still have a fighting chance of qualifying and playing in next year’s Africa Nations Cup (CAN) in Luanda, Angola. Niyonzima told Times Sport recently that the team has not lost the fortitude and enthusiasm to fight for Group C’s final CAN qualification slot. Rwanda will host Zambia on November 14 in what will surely make or break their CAN chances. Technically, Amavubi need to win the tie by a two-goal difference to stand any hope of reaching Angola. “We have not had a good run in the qualifying campaign but I don’t want to point figures. I feel all the parties involved have done their best but things have just not gone our way,” the APR player noted. “All stake holders from administrators, media and fans have done their best.” The 19-year-old also urged Amavubi fans not to give up on the team. “We expect a full house when we play Zambia because we shall need all the backing that we can get on that day. Rwanda still has a chance of making it to next year’s Africa Nations Cup. All they need to do is beat the Zambians 2-0 in the final qualifier on November 14. Zambia with four points has scored two goals and conceded five goals while Rwanda has conceded eight and scored one. A 2-0 win for Rwanda will leave both sides level on goal difference (-3) but Rwanda would edge the Chipolopolo on Fifa’s head-to-head rule. Algeria tops the group on 13 points while African champions Egypt are in second place with 10 points, six clear of Zambia and a whole nine more than Rwanda. Ends
