KARONGI- Former Karongi District vice-Mayor, Jean Baptiste Hakizimana, has vehemently denied allegations that he harbors the Genocide ideology and that he promotes divisionism among Rwandans. Speaking at a district general meeting for the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) over the weekend Hakizimana dismissed the claims as baseless. He threw everyone into prolonged laughter when he said that he is innocent because all the Genocide ideology claims against him were trumped up when he was ‘behind bars.’ “I completely do not understand where the claims came from because the issue came when I was languishing in prison,” Hakizimana, who is currently out of jail on bail said. Hakizimana was arrested for allegedly diverting Rwf100,000 public funds for personal use and Genocide ideology charges. He will soon appear in court, but Genocide ideology charges have since been dropped due to insufficient evidence. He had received the money from the former Western Province Governor, Penelope Kantarama, to repair her house but that it was never accounted for. Ends
