Children of SOS Primary School speak about the need to love and help one another

“If someone takes his time to go and adopt a child, that person should stand in the position of the parent. Parents should be responsible to look after their children, listen to them and make them grow up in good health.” Merci Mukiza 11, P 6. “Every parent who loves their own children should always remember those who are on the streets. They should never feel settled in their hearts when some children are still homeless and whose homes are under the bridges.” Gambe Mafubo, 11. P5. “Some orphans are indisciplined, and it upsets their guardians. At the end of the day people starts saying that guardians are not kind towards them which is not good.” Aline Muhorakeye, 14, P 6. “Children should not be tortured and given heavy work that they are not able to do. When a child grows in such conditions it affects them mentally and even at school they find it difficult to perform well.” Elyse Mukiza, 10, P 4. “It’s good to share whatever you have since you never know whom you are helping. In the future they may help you or your kids but we do not have to help with conditions or expect benefits in return.” Ange M. Branche Ikuzwe, 10, P5. “If I become rich, I will build an orphanage that can help a big number of children who do not have the chance to stay with the parents and are street kids. Parents or guardians who mistreat children and send them to beg on the streets should be seriously punished.” Christian Niyongabo Kwibuka 11, P 6. “We should learn to share the small things we have since anything can happen to you today and you can be helped by others. People in their free time can once in a while visit some vulnerable children and share the little they have.” Christa Nishimwe 11, P 5. “Children should be thankful to all people who think about them.
