Fifty-eight female primary school teachers who received basic football coaching skills have been urged to form girls’ teams in their respective schools.The teachers underwent a one-week basic skills course which ended last Saturday at Centre Isano in Gikondo.The 58 teachers aged between 20-35 years from 29 UNICEF-sponsored/built primary schools attended the course and were awarded certificates at the end of it. The course is part of the partnership between the Association of Kigali Women in Sports (AKWOS) and UNICEF. The project started in 2006.“We trained on the basic of coaching girls’ teams in their respective schools and with the knowledge they’ve got from the training, we’ve urged them to form teams.“This is the only way girl pupils would embrace the game of football,” said Marie Grace Nyinawumuntu, AKWOS administrator.Nyinawumuntu disclosed that the association has a partnership with the local football governing body, Ferwafa to train willing female primary school teachers to become professional coaches.AKWOS officials noted that plans are underway to train two coaches in every district throughout the country with effect from early next year.
