WDA launches hoteliers training

MUSANZE – In a bid to enhance customer-care and other hospitality skill gaps in the country, the Workforce Development Authority on Wednesday launched a one-month training that will see 300 hoteliers equipped with the skills in Rubavu and Musanze districts, both top tourist destinations. The training is conducted by a team of WDA hospitality instructors who recently returned from two-month training in Singapore, together with three Singaporean Food and Beverages (F&B), Culinary Art and Front Office operations specialists. Speaking at the launch in Musanze, the Director General of WDA, Jean Damascene Gatabazi, said that the exercise was in line with the institution’s mandate to empower Rwandans with practical hands-on skills to help transform the country’s economy. “Our country’s key resources are its people, but they need to be of more value in terms of skills in order to take charge of their own and their country’s destiny,” Gatabazi noted. On his part, the Director of Skills Development in Rwanda Development Board (RDB) Apollo Kananura, hailed WDA for initiating the training programme saying that poor customer-care was a ‘crisis’ in Rwanda. He added that customer care was a top priority of the Government, and urged the trainees to seize the opportunity and become ambassadors for customer care revolution in the country. Also present were the Mayor of Rubavu district, Jean Pierre Twagiramungu and Musanze district Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs, Winfrida Mpembyemungu. Ends
