GAKENKE - Members of cell advisory councils from Gakenke District have completed a three-day training on family planning methods, HIV/AIDS prevention and nutrition. The training which was organised by the Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities-RALGA, was aimed at building the capacity of participants to handle critical issues related to health in the rural community. Ten people among them voluntary community health advisors were selected from each cell to attend the training session. Richard Mberabagabo, an officer from RALGA, said the community leaders should use the knowledge they acquired to champion family planning in their respective communities. The Mayor Piere Damien Hakizayezu, called upon pregnant women to seek voluntary counselling and testing for HIV/AIDS. Gakenke is said to be one of the most densely populated districts in the country with the least users of family planning methods. Ends
