MTN holds Aids awareness campaign

Rwandans have been urged to embrace the reality of HIV/Aids in families. The call was made by Dr Agnes Binagwaho, the Execute Director of CNLS, a government agency set up to fight HIV/Aids, during an Aids awareness campaign organised on Friday by MTN in Nyarutarama. She said that educating the public about the problem of HIV/Aids, abstinence and faithfulness to partners, are good mechanisms of fighting the deadly disease.Beatrice Uwitonze, a mother of two children, also testified before the gathering that she was HIV positive. However, she said her life was getting better and focused due to the treatment and counselling services she received since her husband died. According to the 2006 health demographic survey, only 25% of the Rwandan population knew their serology status. The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Themba Khumalo, said the Company is working hand in hand with Rwandans to fight the spread of the scourge.He also said that the company will be organizing similar functions each year to promote good health among the people.Ends
