The Guild president of the School of Finance and Banking (SFB), Mucyo Mulinzi, was last week elected vice president of the East African Community Students Union. This was during the General Assembly of the union held at Nairobi University, Kenya. INILAK’s Steven Seka who has been serving as president since 2007 was replaced by Tanzania’s Kiswaga Festo, the Guild president of Dar es Salaam University. “Elections were conducted in a democratic manner. No complaints of rigging were reported,” Mulinzi said. He promised to prioritize the basic issues that concern the youth of the region. “Among the many issues I ought to focus on, I believe that strengthening regional relations will help the youth take a centre stage in developing the region,” he noted. He further explained that through closer ties, youths are able to acquire different skills and knowledge that can be used in developing their nations. Several students of Rwandan universities were elected to various roles. Jean Paul Ngarambe was elected as secretary for regional communication. Patrick Kananga ascended to the role of secretary for Health and disaster preparedness while Peace Umugwaneza and Joseph Ngabonziza were elected country representatives. Ends
