FALLEN volleyball giants, Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) have targeted this year’s Coupe du Rwanda as they plot to end a long trophy-less run. The Rafiki-based club has not won a trophy since 2006 but team coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva believes that there is enough quality in the team to win this year’s Coupe du Rwanda. “I believe we have a good team with exceptional talent like Eric Nsabimana ‘Machine’ (spiker), Benjamin Kagabo (setter) and Charles Nkurunziza (Center Blocker),” he said, adding that, “It’s now up to the players to believe that they have the ability to win the likes of APR and UNR.” Similar to the past three seasons, APR and National University of Rwanda (UNR) stand out as KVC’s key threat this year. “They are a good complete side but we can challenge them,” he said. In 2006, KVC thrashed APR 3-2 on their way to lifting that year’s Coupe du Rwanda. On top of first division clubs, this year’s edition will also incorporate teams from the country side. Preliminary action throws off this weekend in Huye (UNR and Groupe Scolaire du Butare) with the semi-finals and finals scheduled for next weekend in Kigali. Magerwa have sponsored this year’s edition to a tune of Rwf1m. Ends
