Is TVR taking us for granted?

I totally concur with the concerned citizen in a letter dated Wednesday September 9, 2009 issue expressing indignation towards the way our otherwise loved TVR treat us, the audience. The author of the letter is magnanimous to say that “TVR is becoming an embarrassment” when I personally find that it has been so since a long time. He/she was also kind to only single out one show where the broadcaster displayed insensitivity added to lack of professionalism. It is really irritating when the broadcast goes off air in the middle of news bulletin to suddenly resume without anybody caring to apologize or just create some link with what was previously on air, as if nothing happened. It is neither rare that a show goes off air in a middle of a sentence and comes back with a totally different and unrelated program. We, the viewers, are just short of words wondering what has happened. We often wonder whether the people on TVR ever get to be on the other side of the camera or they just do not care about us. I am most impressed when the very people at TVR broadcasting HE President Kagame’s regular messages calling Rwandans to deliver high quality services and even protest when they are offered bad services not worth value for money are the last to get the message. Do they think theirs is not a service? May be they feel theirs is quite perfect in which case they would be completely irrelevant for their mission. It is really disappointing to have mediocre broadcasting by TVR in today’s Rwanda with all the progress being spearheaded. One would expect TVR to be on the forefront of promoting such achievements and be part and parcel of the development agenda. Let us the concerned citizens unite our voice and wake up our national broadcaster, show what is wrong and propose better ways and more suitable programs that fits in our 2020 vision. Let us hope that this comment is not received as a vindictive attack on TVR personnel or leadership but rather a friendly piece of advice for better service delivery to reflect a true image of where Rwanda is and where it is heading in terms of national development.
