Rwanda’s rugby giants, Gorilla have put blame on poor preparations after their bad performance in the just concluded Hima-Mak 10s tournament held in Kampala, Uganda last weekend. The Gorilla rugby football club captain, Lucien Bikamba told Times Sport on Monday soon after they had returned back from the two-day tournament that lack of enough training led to their poor performance.“We could have at least got away with a Bowl trophy but we missed on it due to lack of consistency.“We are improving gradually and you never know Rwanda can be among the region’s top teams in the years to come,” Bikamba admitted. The fly-half further added that despite Rwanda winning no medal, their general performance was good compared to last year’s in the same event. The Rwanda Rugby Union vice president, Paul Ogaa who accompanied the team to Kampala, praised the players’ general performance.“Though they had a poor show in this year’s event, the players have improved a lot and I think the experience they gained (in Kampala) will go a long way in helping them in the national league next year,” Ogaa said. The Gorilla team lost their two group matches in Pool A, 12-3 against Mean Machine and 0-34 to Hima Impis. However, they had another chance to salvage something form the event, which wasted when they failed to go by the semi-final stage of the Bowl trophy. The Rwandan side defeated Uganda’s Bruins 12-5 in the quarter-finals before losing to Strathmore University of Kenya 0-10 in the semi-finals.Kenya’s Mwamba RFC defeated Uganda’s MTN Heathens 12-5 to lift the main event while Nondies and Strathmore University rugby teams of Kenya won the Plate and Bowl final trophies respectively.
