UK firm resurrects FDLR website

Only a week after the shutting down of the website of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) by a German firm, a London-based web hosting company, Aman, has taken over hosting of the rebel group’s medium of communication. The website that resurfaced on Thursday morning was shut down last Friday following an investigation by German newspaper, Die Tageszeitung. “The FDLR-Website is online again, under the same domain but at another server,” a TAZ reporter told The New Times yesterday. “The company is called Aman. It’s based in London. The German company (OVH) confirmed that they cancelled all contacts with Ignace, also the domain registry.” Ignace Murwanashyaka is the FDLR leader who lives in Mannheim, Germany. The FDLR or ex-FAR/Interahamwe are remnants of former Genocide masterminds who spearheaded the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Die Tageszeitung is investigating ongoing judicial proceedings against the FDLR leadership in Germany. The newspaper’s earlier research into FDLR goings-on indicates that the contract with OVH had been extended in May expiring in 2011. It has not been established whether the website is still registered in Murwanashyaka’s name as it was before. Ends
