NYAMASHEKE – Jean Baptista Habyarimana has been elected Mayor of Nyamasheke District, replacing the former Mayor who stepped down. In the elections conducted at Kagano parish conference, Habyarimana beat his rival Jean Bosco Misago who got only 13 votes, by 280 votes. Habyarimana has been the Rutsiro District Executive Secretary. He was also once the Mayor of the former Rusenyi District in 2003. After announcing the results, he thanked the electorate for voting him, promising to serve them diligently. He promised to work closely with other district staff in order to spur the district’s development. The former Mayor, Vincent Muragwa, stepped down in August, citing the need to go for further studies. Ends
