NORTHERN PROVINCE All religious leaders have been called upon to become partners in promoting human rights and support in “building the fundamental values of a person.” Revealed by the president of the National Human Rights Commission, Zainabu Kaitesi during a workshop involving all catholic priests in the Ruhengeri dioceses, it was said that respect of human and natural rights and ideals of peace were universal principles, regardless of religion. “The doctrines of all religions entail good relations in society, peace and to respect which are part of human rights principles,’’ Kaitesi said. She said that religious leaders had been targeted because they had big followings of people and should therefore use that opportunity to promote the fundamental values of a person. “Human-rights education should be involved in activities because we all struggle to bring justice, order and security to human beings.” She said that the campaign was part of the Commission’s aim to bring to knowledge of human rights to the public. Over 20 catholic priests who turned up for the seminar will study about the human rights in terms of economic development, welfare and culture. Ends
