The organic and natural cosmetics industry is constantly evolving, driven by changing consumer preferences, increased awareness of environmental benefits, entrepreneurship, innovation and technological advances. In February, from 11–14, 2025, the annual World’s Leading Trade Fair for organic products, natural and organic personal care, BIOFACH, was held in Germany, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. The event brought together an impressive array of companies dedicated to promoting health, sustainability, and ecological responsibility. It brought together more than 35,000 visitors from 140 countries and 2,300 exhibitors from 94 countries. In line with this growth, participating companies spanned a variety of sectors, including organic food producers, natural skincare brands, and eco-friendly packaging innovators. Companies and cooperatives from Rwanda were: Ess Oil, Abakunda Kawa Rushashi, Dukunde Kawa Musasa, Ikirezi Ltd, Horizon Sopyrwa, and AgroPy Ltd and products exhibited were essential oil, organic coffee, eco-friendly products to control pests and diseases in crops, animal welfare and public health. The trade fair was a remarkable success, illustrating the growing consumer demand for organic products. According to the 26th edition of the yearbook The World of Organic Agriculture, jointly published by FiBL and IFOAM – Organics International, the global organic farming area increased by 2.5 million hectares in 2023, reaching almost 99 million hectares, representing an increase of 2.6 percent or 2.5 million hectares compared to 2022. Latin America showed the largest growth (+1 million hectares) while Oceania remains the region with the largest area of organic agriculture at 53.2 million hectares, followed by Europe (19.5 million hectares), and Latin America (10.3 million hectares). The sales of organic food reached nearly 136 billion euros in 2023. BIOFACH Trade Fair offered a unique opportunity for Rwandan companies and Cooperatives to share with the world the best organic & natural Rwanda products, network, share insights, and explore new business partnership opportunities. Exhibitors were able to engage directly with potential buyers. In addition to showcasing products, the trade fair featured a series of informative workshops and panel discussions. Experts shared knowledge on innovation and technologies for valuable topics such as sustainable farming systems. Having for the first time a Rwandan stand at the BIOFACH trade fair for the companies and cooperatives reinforced the idea that collaboration is very key in the journey towards a sustainable future. As Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement (ROAM), the umbrella organisation of stakeholders in the organic sector in Rwanda, we were pleased to participate in the trade fair along aside with companies and cooperatives in our network. We are more committed than ever to continuously supporting organic agriculture, which not only enhances product quality but also protects our planet. Heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Rwanda through NAEB, the Rwanda Embassy in Germany, exhibitors from Rwanda, sponsors, and the supporting Team based in Germany who made the participation of Rwanda in the BIOFACH 2025 a success. This commitment to support the organic sector is paving the way for a healthier planet. As we look forward to next year’s BIOFACH event, from February 10-13, 2026, let’s continue to champion the values of sustainability, health, and innovation. Together, we can inspire change and cultivate a resilient and sustainable future for generations to come Help shape the future!
