BRUGUIERE IN THE DOCK

Yesterday we reported that Richard Mugenzi, another one of the sham witnesses lined up by French judge Jean Louis Bruguiere, in the bogus case against nine senior government officials, has retracted his testimony. In his testimony, he had claimed to have intercepted a radio communication that linked the RPF to the downing of former President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane. It is on the basis of such fabricated evidence by Mugenzi and others that the judge, who ought to have been a custodian of justice, decided to shamelessly indict the Rwandan officials, formerly top commanders of the then Rwandese Patriotic Army (RPA). Bruguiere, was in the first place denounced for indicting the officials without giving them a chance to give their side of the story, an anomaly that was rightly described by international jurists as a miscarriage of justice.
