Adrien Niyoshuti (RWA) 35:04:20 BY BONNIE MUGABE Abraham Ruhumuriza won the 9th edition of the Tour du Rwanda championship which has been going on throughout the country for the last ten days. Ruhumuriza won his third consecutive Tour de Rwanda title after topping the overall standings with total time of 34:53:48 in1177km event. The 86km stretch race from Ngoma to Kigali which climaxed the tour yesterday was won by Obed Ruvogera after clocking 2:42:52. Abraham Ruhumuriza followed on second spot after eight minutes and 54 seconds. Uganda’s Asuman Gessa was third while Kenya’s Stephen Mwangi followed on fourth position. Meanwhile, the Ngoma-Kigali stretch, the shortest race of the entire tour tested the leading cyclists of the tour as Kenyan Wyclef Lovi won the race after clocking 03:10. Rwanda’s Nyandwi Uwase and another Kenyan champion Stephen Mwangi crossed the finish line at the same time after clocking 03:10:02. According to the over-all standings the 2005 and 2006 Tour de Rwanda champion, Ruhumuriza finished first. He was followed by fellow Team Rwanda champions, Nyandwi Uwase, Nathan Byukusenge and Adrien Niyoshuti respectively. The only foreigner who obtained a far better position was Asuman Gessa from Uganda who came sixth. This year’s tour du Rwanda was jointly sponsored by MTN Rwanda, BCR and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport.Ends
