NYAMASHEKE – A Gacaca Court in Gihombo Sector, in Nyamasheke District has sentenced Ignase Ndorimana, 50, to 30 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of various Genocide crimes. The court that sat on Thursday in Rukomo cell found Ndorimana guilty of participating in the killing of several Tutsi in the former Commune Rwamatamu, during the Genocide. “According to the rules and regulations that govern Gacaca trials and proceedings, we have found you guilty of actively participating in the murder of several Tutsi in the former Commune Rwamatamu region during the 1994 Genocide. You are thus sentenced to 30 years imprisonment as punishment for your crimes,” the court president ruled. Immediately after reading the verdict, the culprit was whisked away to Cyangugu central prison, where he is going to serve his sentence. During the trial, an inmate at Cyangugu central prison alleged that Ndorimana was among the masterminds of the massacres in both the former Rwamatamu commune and the former Kibuye prefecture. He is said to have attended several meetings that planned and later executed the killings in Gihombo region. Ndorimana served as an inspector of schools in the former Kibuye prefecture before and during the Genocide. Gacaca records show that his wife was earlier sentenced to 19 years imprisonment over similar crimes. Ndorimana has been a teacher of psychology at Mururu Teacher Training College since 2001. Ends
