NYARUGENGE - Prosecution has requested Nyarugenge Intermediate Court to sentence Robert Munyantore, the man who forged President Paul Kagame’s signature to a 20 year jail term. While presenting their final submissions, prosecution averred that Munyantore’s sentence be doubled because of recidivism, basing on the fact that he had been convicted on similar crimes. The verdict has been scheduled for September 9, 2009.Munyantore, who had initially been convicted and sentenced to two year on forgery charges, was re-arrested mid this year after he forged President Kagame’s signature to con people. At the time he was re-arrested, Munyantore was serving a suspended sentence of one year of his prior two-year sentence. Munyantore believed to be in his early 30s, was arrested in Kigali carrying documents bearing the signature of the head of state that he tried to use in soliciting for a job in a government institution. Institutions he had tried to go to are yet to be disclosed but recently prosecution spokesman Augustin Nkusi confirmed Munyantore was targeting employment in public offices, claiming to have been recommended by President Kagame.
