NYAGATARE – Duterimbere Micro-finance institution has started mobile banking in Nyagatare district. The new system of banking, according to the institution’s manager in the eastern region, Apolinaire Rutabayiru, will help rural bankers to get loans and savings easily. The new system will also cut off long distances that farmers have been walking to reach the regional offices in order to access banking services. “It is a new move that we have developed in this region but we have been running it in other areas of operation including Kayonza District. It will help our rural clients especially farmers who have been covering long distances to our regional offices to bank their money,” Rutabayiru said. He added that they have so far opened the new system in the sectors of Bugaragara and Karangazi and it will be rolled out to other areas soon. “We intend to provide such services within different areas anytime during the course of this week. Our mobile banking units will be operational to cater for such markets,” he said. The mobile banking units, he added, will be opened at milk collection centres. “At a milk collection centre we shall negotiate with cooperative owners so that we can put our mobile counter in such strategic locations.
