Francophone Games’ team regroups this month

RWANDA’s team will go to camp late this month to start preparations for this year’s Francophone Games scheduled for September 27-October 6 in Beirut, Lebanon. The Chef de Mission Emmanuel Bugingo told Times Sport yesterday that the ministry of sports will meet respective federations this week to discuss on the necessities needed to start preparations. “We are meeting federations to start making budgets. We hope to start the (residential) training camp before the end of this month,” Bugingo said. Rwanda will send five disciplines including; cultural dances, football, basketball, athletics, boxing and table tennis to this year’s Games. In football, Rwanda will be represented by her U-20 team, which participated in this year’s African Youth Championship. Top athletes Dieudonne Disi, Epiphanie Nyirabarame and Claudette Mukasakindi are confirmed athletes to represent the country after beating the minimum qualifications. Disi qualified for the Games after clocking 2hours and 12 minutes in the Paris Marathon, Nyirabarame clocked 2 hours and 41 minutes in last year’s Rome marathon while Mukasakindi clocked 16 minutes and 5 minutes in the 5000m of last year’s Rendezvous National. In the last edition held in Niger, Disi scooped a gold medal in 10,000m and a bronze medal in the 5,000m. Nyirabarame also won a bronze medal in the female marathon. Ends
