KAYONZA - A Savings and Credit Cooperative society (SACCO) has been launched in Murama Sector in Kayonza District.At its launch, Dukire Sacco recruited more than 1,041 members. Each member contributed Rwf 6500 to buy shares, during which a total of Rwf 7,016,500 as share capital was collected. “This is a very good beginning. In fact, we have collected more money than we had anticipated,” Filbert Munyenkanga, the Executive Secretary of Murama Sector said. Munyenkanga said the sector expects to register all residents above 16 as members. The SACCO chairman, Jean d’amour Ndizeye, noted that the cooperative will cultivate a savings culture among the youth. “It has been long over due. Our people have great need to learn to save as a means to development,” Ndizeye said. The official added that micro credit programmes have successfully contributed to lifting people out of poverty in many countries. “Sustained access to micro credit will contribute to poverty reduction by generating income and employment,” he said. “It will also enable children to go to school, families to receive medical care and offer individuals the best possible choices of widening entrepreneurship.” Ends
