Niyonzima’s intended professional move hits snag

Rwanda and APR midfielder Haruna Niyonzima’s proposed move to Morocco Premier League champions Difaa El Jadida suffered a major setback after his scheduled trip to Morocco was cancelled at the last minute on thursday. “I was supposed to leave for Morocco on Thursday evening for talks with Difaa El Jadida but the trip is off because I was stopped from traveling,” the midfielder revealed to this paper. “But I’m still confident of joining the Moroccan club because they are willing to pay a lot of money for me. I don’t really want to play another season in Rwanda.” He, however, did not elaborate further on who and how he was stopped from traveling. But reliable sources have confirmed that APR officials stopped him. The Rwandan league champions have since contacted Difaa El Jadida asking them to write an official letter requesting for the player through the right channels. Niyonzima, who joined the military side in 2007 from rivals Rayon Sport, is a free agent after his two-year contract with APR expired last season. His intended professional move has propelled him to ignore the national team call-up as the Amavubi Stars prepare to face Tanzania in an international friendly on Wednesday. Difaa El Jadida have also been linked with another Rwandan international Saidi Abedi Makasi. Other unconfirmed reports indicate that the striker has already signed for the Morocco league champions.
