Better lavatory services needed in the Rwanda International Trade Fair.

Editor, Yesterday, I went to ease myself in one of the toilets at the Gikondo showgrounds but I ended up changing my mind. Apart from being extremely dirty, there was no tissue paper as well. When I inquired whether I could have any tissue, I was told it wasn’t available. I hear the customers had for the past two days concentrated on stealing each roll put the toilet so the only option was letting the customers go without toilet paper. I thought it was only a problem with one toilet only to discover that even others were the same as well. Even flushing water isn’t available! Such a place, with many people, needs extremely hygienic toilets. The fact that one of the toilet buildings is a few meters from a temporary restaurant also exposes people to a risk of catching diseases. We have all heard of cholera, dysentery and other diseases related to improper hygiene. I’m sure no one would be happy if they contracted such in an exhibition that is meant to promote business. On the other hand, toilet services are charged. The 100 Frw that people pay shouldn’t be taken for granted. We pay for good service which includes clean toilets, tissue paper and water to wash our hands. It’s better to declare that there are no toilet services other than infecting people. Though the trade fair is closing soon, whoever is responsible for the toilet services should keep sanitation in mind even for the future exhibitions. Lilian MugeniRemera
