NGO fosters delivery of health provision

Eastern Province KIREHE – An NGO with international linkages is fostering the provision of health within the Eastern Province. For instance The New Times learnt that patients admitted at Kirehe Hospital do not need to suffer the extra burden of cooking, as the hospital solves their feeding needs. This form of intervention is brought courtesy of a programme known as Partners of Health (Inshuti Mu Buzima- IMB). The project started upon the invitation of Government to certain international health services providers. The Government’s aim was to respond to global health crises while addressing poverty challenges at local levels. IMB works in partnership with public and private organisations, including the Ministry of Health, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative. The initiative began in April 2005, working at the initially identified six sites that had been selected in two rural health districts in South-eastern Rwanda — Rwinkwavu and Kirehe. PIH sites are now located in the three districts of Kayonza, Kirehe and Ngoma. Consequently Patients say Kirehe offers some of the best health services in the province. “There is nothing much I can say about this hospital. It is in fact a picture of health infrastructures we foresee in the Rwandan Millennium Development Goals (RMDGs),” said John Safari,a patient at the hospital said. Medical personnel at the hospital say that they have some of the most essential facilities to attend to different health challenges in the area. “The hospital has ample facilities that you will rarely find in other hospitals across the country,” Dr. Robert Kimpe a doctor at the hospital said. He added that people from different parts of the country attend the hospital to access the excellent facilities offered. Doctors added that the hospital has deployed modern ICT systems for the purposes of boosting service delivery. Ends
