Muligande begins work at MINEDUC

GASABO – Former Minister of Education Dr. Daphrose Gahakwa yesterday handed over the office to her successor, Dr. Charles Muligande, at the ministry’s offices in Kacyiru. Gahakwa was dropped in a mini- cabinet reshuffle which occurred last weekend. Speaking at the handover ceremony, the out-going minister thanked several directors who worked under her during her tenure for their maximum cooperation. Gahakwa also said that she had left behind several policies that had taken root but needed to be followed up diligently. “During my term of office, some new policies like the adoption of English as the language of instruction, introduction of the nine-year basic education and others took root but they are still in their infant stages and therefore need to be closely followed up,” said Gahakwa. She added that some other policies which were still in the pipeline would need to be acted upon urgently like the approval of some universities which needed provisional licences to operate. Addressing the officials who attended the ceremony Muligande, who was the Minister in Charge of Cabinet Affairs, vowed that he would strive for excellence in his new capacity. “This is a very important ministry because it defines the future of the country. If you fail in education, it means that you cannot have a bright future, I am therefore going to work hard to ensure that this country gets a better tomorrow through this ministry,” he pledged. Muligande also said that he was much humbled to have been chosen to lead such a ministry and said that though it was a big task, he would do all to deliver. The ministry of education has for the second time in two successive reshuffles changed handsMathias Habamungu who served as the Permanent secretary under Gahakwa is the new State Minister in charge of primary and secondary education replacing Theoneste Mutsindashyaka who was fired earlier.
