Volleyball enthusiasts in Africa have an exciting calendar year ahead, with several high-profile tournaments set to showcase the continent’s talent. From club-level championships to youth and beach volleyball events, 2025 promises to be a year filled with thrilling action on the court. Here is a rundown of the key volleyball events to look forward to across Africa in the next 12 months: Zone 5 Volleyball Club Championship (February 26 – March 3) The Zone 5 Volleyball Club Championship will take place in Uganda, bringing together the top teams from 12 countries in the region. The top three teams from this competition will earn a qualification for the prestigious African Volleyball Championship. In the 2023 edition, Rwanda’s Police VC won the competition for the first time after overcoming Uganda’s Sport-S in four sets (3-1). On the women’s side, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) fell to Kenya Pipeline Corporation in straight sets (3-0) at BK Arena in Kigali. 2025 African Volleyball Championship (April 1-30) The African Volleyball Championship will feature top-performing teams across the continent. The competition will bring together the best teams, men and women, to compete for continental glory. For the women’s category, the championship will be held in Nigeria from April 1-4, while the men’s category will take place in Libya from April 17-30. CAVB U21 Beach Volleyball Championship (May 16-30) This tournament will showcase Africa’s emerging talent in beach volleyball, with players born on or after January 1, 2006, eligible to participate. Governed by the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) regulations, this championship promises to spotlight the future stars of the sport. Host countries and dates are yet to be confirmed. 2025 U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship Youth volleyball will take center stage as teams comprising players born on or after January 1, 2006, compete for the U20 African Nations title. In 2024, Tunisia demonstrated dominance by winning the African Boys’ U18 Nations Championship and the African Women’s U20 Nations Championship. Host countries and dates are yet to be confirmed. 2025 U16 African National Volleyball Championship This championship will focus on the youngest category of players, born on or after January 1, 2010. It provides a platform for young talents to gain international exposure and experience early in their careers. Host countries and dates will be confirmed in due course. CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup The CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup is another highlight on the 2025 calendar. In the previous edition of 2024, Rwanda’s women’s team secured an impressive fifth-place finish despite tough competition, while the men’s team pulled out in the middle of the competition due to injuries. The upcoming tournament offers an opportunity for redemption and further growth.
