Renowned American gospel singer Joe L Barnes, best known for leading Maverick City Music’s hit track “Promises,” is set to perform in Kigali on February 23. He will headline the Young and Chosen concert which will take place at Christian Life Assembly (CLA) Church in Nyarutarama. A Kentucky native, Barnes is a talented songwriter and worship leader at The Shepherd's Tent in Covington, Georgia. His visit to Rwanda will feature a collaboration with Nigerian singer-songwriter and rapper Limoblaze. According to Marumbo Sichinga, one of the concert organisers, Young and Chosen is a concept inspired by Limoblaze’s recent album. “The goal is to encourage young people in Africa and beyond, reminding them that being young is no excuse for not doing great things for God,” Sichinga told The New Times. “We are young and chosen for a greater purpose and should live confidently, knowing our Maker strengthens us to fulfill His calling.” Limoblaze, recently signed to Reach Records, a label co-owned by hip-hop artist Lecrae, has embraced new collaborations including a partnership with Barnes, leading to the creation of their song “No Greater Love” in August 2024. Sichinga said Barnes brings a unique perspective on worship and faith, drawing from his experiences of God’s miracles. ” Their shared vision for ministry on the continent inspired the idea of serving together through events in multiple African countries,” he said. Addressing concerns about the venue’s capacity, Sichinga assured that the CLA Church auditorium, which can accommodate 1,500 attendees, is well suited for the event. He expressed confidence that the space will be filled with people eager to worship and connect with a community of believers to grow in their faith. Early bird tickets are available at Rwf 10,000 while tickets at the door will go for Rwf 20,000. A VIP Meet and Greet session has also been scheduled where interested attendees will pay Rwf 40,000.
